Fiona Lang-Sharpe

President

Fiona was born in Scotland, UK. She first studied in maternal care in England in 1987 receiving her National Association of Maternal  and Child Welfare (NAMCW). She moved to Canada in 1989. After having her first child in 1991, she  became involved with La Leche League Canada, gaining her accreditation as a Leader. She continued to work with families educating them in breastfeeding while raising her family. Fiona, her husband Gary and their five boys reside in Edmonton Alberta.

She currently works in private practice educating families in prenatal, birth, and postpartum care, she also works as Board Certified Lactation Consultant IBCLC in private practice.


Kim Smith

Membership Director/ Secretary

Kim hales from Regina, SK, and obtained her Medical Laboratory Technologist Diploma as her first endeavor into the world of health and healing. After having her first child prematurely Kim became keenly interested in the support and protection of breastfeeding. By the time her second child arrived Kim had become active in the lactation community primarily in the role of an accredited La Leche League Leader. 

Three children down the road, Kim looked at becoming an IBCLC as a new career choice. Shortly after accreditation Kim fulfilled a maternity leave position as an IBCLC for a rural hospital where she applied her skills in an acute setting. A year into her new chosen career, baby number four arrived and a new passion and direction for lactation action in her community arose.

Kim currently works in private practice as an IBCLC and is working on new breastfeeding initiatives in her community, such as a Breastfeeding Café and more educational opportunities for parents and professionals. She is also a CAPPA Certified Lactation Educator and Doula and continues to volunteer with her local LLL within the Professional Liaison Department. Her husband Matt and her children Chloe, Makai, Kaamil, and Cullen are all supportive of her mission!


Christine Shubert

Education Director

Christine graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelors degree in Nursing in 2001 and has worked in pediatric and community health nursing in both Canada and the US. She has a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of Hawai’i and received her lactation training from UCSD. Christine is the owner of Over The Moon Lactation Services and is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in private practice in Calgary, AB. She is also the mother to three breastfed children and through her experiences breastfeeding has learned the value of knowledgeable support, education and encouragement in order to reach your breastfeeding goals.

Bethany Heintz

Chapters Director 

Bethany has a passion for integrative and functional medicine and works hard to keep abreast of new studies in these areas. Her career path as a nurse and lactation consultant have fostered in her a passion for the importance of both western and alternative medicines. She has a particular interest in holistic medicine including lactation, airway function, hormone regulation and digestive health.

After graduating as a nurse, Bethany worked in hospital and long term care facilities, eventually finding her career calling in primary care. Following the birth of her second child, she trained at the Newman Breastfeeding Institute in Toronto. Before writing her boards, Bethany spent more than 2000 hours in direct contact with breastfeeding mothers, working closely with them and their families to achieve their personal breastfeeding objectives.

Bethany holds a seat on the Baby Friendly Initiative Committee at the Woolwich Community Health Centre in St. Jacobs Ontario. She continues to work as a primary care clinical nurse and Telemedine Nurse Coordinator in St. Jacobs; as an IBCLC at Robins’ Nest Family Care; and, as a private practice IBCLC at Nourishing Foundations Lactation Consulting in Guelph Ontario. She is currently furthering her education in herbal medicine for women under the tutelage of Dr. Aviva Romm.
